Take control of your password security

Google Password Manager makes it simple to use strong, unique passwords for all your online accounts. Here’s a walk-through of how to add even more security to your digital life.

Why use Google Password Manager?

Stolen passwords are one of the most common ways that accounts are compromised. Using a custom password for each new account minimizes risk across all your logins. Password Manager suggests strong, one-of-a-kind passwords to avoid multiple account compromises from a single stolen password.
With Password Manager you can:
  • Create and save secure, unique passwords you don’t have to remember
  • Protect your saved passwords through Google’s built-in encryption-based security
  • Automatically fill in passwords from your Google Account
  • Receive notifications about unsafe passwords that may have been published on the internet

How to get set up

On your Android phone, head to “Settings,” then scroll down and tap Google > All services. Select "Autofill," then "Autofill with Google,” and make sure "Use Autofill with Google" is turned on. After that, whenever you create a new account using a browser or on an app, you’ll have the opportunity to choose a safe, custom-made password.

When creating an account, tap the password creation field, select the key icon, and choose “Generate password and save to your Google account.” Complete your username, and your password will be auto-saved.
Tip
To sign into accounts with saved passwords, simply enter your username and tap “Choose saved password.”

Do a Password Checkup

To check the security of passwords you’ve saved to your Google Account, head to your settings, tap Google > Password Manager, then select “Checkup.”

Stand by as your device reviews every stored password you have. After a few seconds, you’ll see separate lists of any accounts with compromised, reused, and weak passwords.
Tip
Tap into flagged accounts and select “Change password” to update.
Password Manager is also available for use on Chromebooks and the Chrome browser, letting you store passwords across multiple devices for safety and convenience.
