About this app

The Kestrel LiNK® Ballistics App gives you the ability to manage key features and functions of your connected Kestrel Ballistics device to maximize convenience and boost your shooting performance.

Quickly and easily create, upload, download, and store gun profiles and access the Applied Ballistics and Hornady libraries of lab-tested bullet parameters and profiles for use in your Kestrel Ballistics Meter using the Gun Profile Manager(1). Place your Kestrel in the vane mount on a tripod (sold separately) to view solutions remotely from your shooting position on your mobile device using Single Target Mode. Create and send up to 10 custom targets to your Kestrel or export a printable range card using Target Card Mode(2).

The Kestrel LiNK Ballistics app also allows you to easily update the firmware in any LiNK-enabled Kestrel Ballistics meter or HUD so you always have the latest features and improvements.

This app is a giant steaming dog turd. This app is more infuriating than the IRS website, and I'm a software engineer. Why are all targets in a new target card default set to a 2mph target speed? Why does the text in on-screen buttons bleed over? Did Helen Keller write this on a broken braille keyboard? For an $800 unit, this app makes me want to go back to my WeatherFlow and BallisticArc. Mind you, Vortex has screwed that up so badly I paid $800 to be let down by this.

Update: Changed rating from 3 to 5 stars. I contacted technical support after posting my original review and they were able to find the source of the bug, updated the app, and now it works fine! Original review: The app is good for setting up the gun profile and transferring it to the device, but the compass calibration and MV calibration options do not work. Any time I select either of these, the app crashes. I haven't been able to find a way to correct this.

Thus far the ballistic predictions are pretty close, but not dead on for my 22lr shots out past 100yds. You only seem to be able to access the MV Temp data table from the App, not the unit. You can only access the DSF table from the unit, not the App. Thus you have to save and transfer gun/bullet data in the propper order to get it to save the data and update these factors properly. Both need to be accessible from App and Unit.
