App permissions:

Sky Map has no required permissions. Each permission below is optional — you may refuse any of them and still use the app. Nothing is requested at startup; each is asked for only when you first use the feature that needs it, and each can be withdrawn separately in your device settings.
⭐ Location (optional) — used to draw the sky for where you are. Refuse it and you can enter a place name or coordinates by hand instead. Your location never leaves your device.
⭐ Camera (optional) — used only by through-camera mode, which overlays the sky on the live camera view. Refuse it and every other mode works as normal. The image is never recorded or transmitted.
⭐ Notifications (optional) — used only to tell you about meteor-shower peaks and tonight's sky, if you ask for them. They stay off until you turn them on.

Ratings and reviews

This latest update really threw off the accuracy. I'm looking at the Moon & Venus, and holding my device square to my sight out at arms length, the app is showing those two objects 2.5-3 device widths to the right. Kind of defeats the purpose of quickly pulling up the app and figuring out what I'm looking at without establishing a reference first. The old version was a lot closer to being accurate (at least within a half a device width at arms length) of being spot on.

Essential for camping! I always liked this app, but with the new upgrades it's incredible. Having a dark red mode for the screen so you can still see in the dark is super helpful. I like to guess the constellations, but this confirms them, and shows a whole lot of other things like solar systems and meteor showers.

Been using this app for probably 10 years at this point, both for stargazing and for amateur astronomy, it is amazing! It's sky map, you get the map of the sky without any bs (which cannot be said about other apps of similar nature on this platform). This is simply the best choice imo. Really enjoy the time travel function and it's crazy that it's still getting relevant updates which make it even more fun to use, e.g. clicking on an object to get its description. Thanks to the amazing dev team!
