Permissions

Why does the DTE Energy app ask for so many permissions? We ask for these permissions so that we can provide you with the following useful features:

Your Accounts, Find Account on Device, Read Google Service Configuration, Sync Settings, Read Sync Settings allows us to sync to Google Drive to save addresses. This makes entering outages easier for you. You can choose opt out of this feature later.

Your Location, Storage and Test Access to Protected Storage helps find your location on the outage map and enables Google maps. We also store your address on your device so that you can see your stored locations within the app.

Camera allows you to use the flash of your camera as a flashlight to help you during a power outage. We do not access any of your pictures or your actual camera. We do not record images or video.

Control Vibration and Prevent Device From Sleeping allows us to send you notifications. You can choose to opt out of this feature later, but you must initially grant permission for access to the DTE Energy app.

Edit Nov 2023: Still didn't fix the outage map. Edit 20 March, 2023: Your update didn't fix the horrible outage map design. I hate your new outage map design. Go back to the old one which was actually useful. Sometimes change is necessary and good but this design is just stupid. Worse, frustratingly frequent app crashes while trying to manipulate the map. Zoom out too quickly and you have to start over. DTE_Energy has become the not-ready-for-prime-time power provider.

I have been using this app for a couple of years to strictly pay my bill. I do not use any other features. I have not had any issues until last month (07-23) where it would crash when I attempted to pay my bill. Message = "the app has a bug." I downloaded the update, same result. So, I uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it. It worked. Here we are in Aug. and the same thing. I haven't uninstalled/reinstalled it again yet. Came here looking for other customer experiences. Please fix.

I'm glad it takes away from the hassle of trying to use the website. Only problem though I can't access by bill history and I tried using the insight app it didn't help ether. Thank you new update can't access the outage map at all. Cuz supposedly crashes every time when never done it before. All to ensure you go on their website. Then you got to type your location in otherwise you all just be seeing everybody's outage on the map instead where you actually are.
