Goal:
In this module, you will analyze the morphology of Taenia sp worms. and will compare the differences between species and their eggs. You will learn to handle and adjust the necessary equipment.
Applications:
The concepts are useful in health control, helping in the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and monitoring of diseases such as taeniasis and cysticercosis, caused by Taenia sp.
The Experiment:
Using a microscope and prepared slides, you will observe the morphology of the eggs, proglottids, and scolex of T. saginata and T. solium.
Security:
Follow biosecurity rules: wear a long-sleeved coat and have a notebook/pad and pencil/pen for notes.
Scenario:
In the microscopy laboratory, attach the slides, select the 10x objective and then the 40x objective, adjusting the focus with the macrometric and micrometric buttons to visualize the parasites.
