ARiGA (Augmented Reality in Brain Anatomy) is an interactive, AR-based information software. It provides comparative insights into the anatomy of the brains of nine vertebrates. These representatives are lamprey, trout, shark, frog, crocodile, pigeon, dog, rabbit and human. The AR-based interaction with 3D brain models allows self-directed development of similarities and differences. Even users who are not yet able to shoot anatomical structures independently on the basis of existing knowledge of basic construction plans and technical terms can use the app with AR support to make comparative observations. A further examination of the structural differences that can be observed between the nine representatives enables the discovery and understanding of evolutionary processes and tendencies. In addition to explanations of structures that can be recognized from the outside of the models, brain sections are also visualized via AR. This allows the brain anatomy to be viewed extensively. The app interlaces real models and optionally (on demand) also photographs. Optionally, information can also be called up via audio so that reading further texts does not necessarily impair a visual development of the brain. In summary, the app offers a tool for interactive learning and teaching of neurobiological basics.
