Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) is a globally recognised non-profit organisation based in Bengaluru focused on environmental conservation and sustainable, socially just development. The Community Forest Resource (CFR) rights initiative is a part of ATREE’s Forests, Governance and Livelihoods programme where our mission is to empower forest-dependent communities in India by facilitating the recognition and protection of their community forest rights through research, participatory action, capacity-building, and community-informed open technologies.
The Aamcho CFR Mapping app is part of this initiative. Mapping traditional community forest areas has historically required expensive GPS units, and the resulting geographic data often becomes inaccessible or lost. The Aamcho CFR Mapping App removes these barriers by providing free, smartphone-based GPS tracking. The app’s features support accurate CFR mapping, boundary dispute resolution and forest resource planning.
