About this app

Akoose is a Bantu language spoken by over 100,000 people in Cameroon, specifically in the Bangem, Tombel and Nguti Subdivisions, the Kupe-Mwanenguba Division, South West Region and Moungo Division of the Littoral Region. Of the three dialects- northern, western and southern- the southern dialect was chosen to be represented in written form.
The dictionary content was compiled by Robert Hedinger who published the Akoose - English Dictionary and English - Akoose Index in 2012. The Kay Williamson Educational Foundation has kindly provided funds for the publication. The development of this publication started in the late 1970's by SIL Cameroon under the auspices of the General Delegation of Scientific Research and is currently under the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation.
