I would say that this app technically does what it promises. However, it is no substitute for... anything. If you want to add an opening to your repertoire, read the Wikipedia article, buy a book, anything. This app is next to useless. Not worth any money whatsoever. There's no description of the ideas behind openings, there's not an option to really train anything beyond the first few book moves, and the "grandmaster openings" are a joke.

Hello, Thank you for your review. The free version of this app has all book moves only. Make sure you try other features in the PRO version! It allows PGN import of any size, or you can move pieces freely on the chessboard to explore new variations beyond the book moves.

So far, this looks like the best chess opening app I have tried. My needs are simple: a premium app that lets me buy it once and not pay a monthly fee, the ability to add any openings I want to practice, and a non-annoying interface that preferably allows customization. If it has a built in database and engine, that makes it basically perfect. This one has all of those things, so great! My only wish is for more theme customization, since I am not a fan of the colors. Still, it works fine for me!
