Played "The Elementalists" book 1. The concept is interesting but poorly realized. The storytelling is not very good. Some of the multiple choice paths don't merge smoothly or appear to have no effect. Many choices cost in-game money, and only very little of it can be earned without spending real money. You have to wait or pay to open chapters, including when repeating old chapters. Even after spending about USD 20, the experience was not satisfying, with the nagging feeling of having had to miss out on too many good choices. Chapters can only be repeated as a whole, which quickly becomes boring; there is no way to go back one or two screens (even if just dialog) after having accidently touched the screen. Choices with a timeout are sprung on you without warning, not even, say, a ticking clock, making the reading experience unnecessarily stressful. The artwork looks good but is repeated very often, with panels only showing the general ambiance, but no specifics to the scene. Reading a real book, even if mediocre, is far more rewarding and cheaper.

I absolutely loved reading/playing through this. Just completed The Freshman and just started The Sophomore. Totally love the writing and the core group of characters. Out of all the people my character meets, Kaitlyn is my absolute favorite and a total sweetheart. I have one request where ads are concerned and because of this, I have to knock a couple of ⭐s off my review. Why on earth did you double and in most cases triple the length of the ads? That kills wanting to watch ads for extra 💎s.

Choices is my favorite visual novel app!!! It has great user interface and it doesn't glitch except it's due for an update. I love the fact that we can get extra gems and keys with so much ease. However, it would be nice if there are more options (especially skin tones and hair styles) to choose from when picking our characters. Great work Pixelberry Team!!!
