About this app

The Grand Lodge of Pernambuco was founded on October 6, 1932, on the initiative of a group of Freemasons from Pernambuco, members of the Fraternity Palmarense, Cavaleiros da Luz and Luzeiro da Verdade Masonic Lodges, with the name of GRANDE LOJA DE MAÇONS ANTIGOS LIVRES AND ACCEPTED, receiving the Constitutive Letter of the Grand Lodge of the State of Paraíba.

The creator of this movement was brother Mário Carneiro Ribeiro Melo (photo), who convinced brother Zenóbio da Cunha Mello, Venerable Master of the Palmarense Fraternity Lodge No. No. 9 and Luzeiro da Verdade No. 8 (also from the Grand Lodge of Paraíba), which left this Grand Lodge on October 5, 1932 to constitute the Grand Lodge of Pernambuco. There are indications that the Knights of the Cross Lodge n° 267 (of the GOB) also intended to be the founder of this new Masonic Body, having contacts in this sense, which culminated in the revocation of its Constitution by the Grande Oriente do Brasil, in 12 May 1932, however, for unknown reasons, he did not join the founding group of the Grand Lodge of Pernambuco.
