About this app
Herrnhut is the origin of the Evangelical Brethren Church. Protestant religious refugees from Moravia founded the place a good 300 years ago. The missing “d” in the name of the community “Brotherhood” is due to the language of the time.
Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf (1700–1760) made the land available to the religious refugees for settlement in Upper Lusatia.
On June 17, 1722, the carpenter Christian David felled the first tree to build the new place under the “Mr. Hat”. As the Brethren Unity spread worldwide, missionaries from Upper Lusatia carried a blueprint for new settlements to other countries. One of them, Christiansfeld in Denmark, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.
Herrnhut itself has now been added to the list via a transnational expansion application, along with Bethlehem in Pennsylvania (USA) and Gracehill in Northern Ireland.
Current information from the districts of the Hutberg region, dates, activities, events, tips and news as well as sights and tourist offers are brought together and bundled in this app.
This resulted in the “Hutberg OL” app, which is not only intended to be an information platform for the local population, but also to bring all “home-loving” Upper Lusatians near and far and of course all tourists and guests closer to this beautiful region in the heart of Upper Lusatia .

The Hutberg region around Herrnhut in Upper Lusatia consists of the communities of Ruppersdorf/O.L. with its districts of Schwan and Nineveh, the municipality of Strahwalde with its district of Friedensthal, the municipality of Großhennersdorf with its districts of Euldorf, Heuscheune, Neundorf auf dem Eigen and Schönbrunn and the municipality of Berthelsdorf with the district of Rennersdorf/O.L. and the administrative capital Herrnhut.
