Innovative Utility (IU) is a app to help organizations in high-risk industries allow their staff to innovate in a risk-controlled way. Industries like aviation, healthcare, energy, and mining have stringent procedures in place to manage risk. These procedures are effective, but often stifle innovation. Typically to deviate from a procedure, a lengthy and formal procedure review must be undertaken and approved before an innovative new method can be used.
Our app empowers experienced staff nominated as “innovators” to assess risk at the coalface and understand whether they are approved to innovate, ie, to deviate from standard procedure. This assessment process is documented and forms a record, or audit trail, that helps organizations monitor and review the outcomes of this more flexible form of risk management and to ensure that innovative activity is captured and used to improve existing procedures.
