Played this about 100 hours now and I'm playing through on Hardcore 2 (3rd time around). Yes I've watched a few videos but you can everything without paying (I haven't). Lots of missions to play so you're never stuck. Yes you have to wait for energy charges to start missions, and yes, constructing and researching weapons takes time, but that's time I spend playing other games anyway. The best weapons and ammo aren't locked for cash. Training missions are good too, with pre-determined loadouts.

The game needs some help, serious help. There are missing map textures, the maps will blacken out if they are terrain the game doesn't recognize, some enemies are broken and don't respond to any of the weapons without significant help, the train passes through bridges and can't shoot at anything but enemies can shoot at the train, the list goes on. This game needs a serious update and soon.

Ten years since release, and is still a really good game. I do wish, though, that I could just pay for the game itself instead of a membership system to get premium perks. Other than that, It takes a bit to wrap your head around, but is great fun. There are some recurring issues with some of the maps not rendering/loading correctly, and sometimes the difficulty of the game is extremely inconsistent.
