Why does it work?
It is normal for language learners to experience more language exposure than language creation. Language creation is hard and needs to be nurtured.

There are different ways to increase your active vocabulary (words that you have the ability to use, not just understand). This includes intense repetition, consuming content you enjoy (books, series, movies), flashcards, etc. These methods are great and should be part of any language learners tool kit.

But, there is another way to increase your active vocabulary. Simply by using words. Ideally in your own personalized context.

Ratings and reviews

Fantastic little app. Its simple in the best way, allowing you to swing and and out when you have some time. It's not going to teach you a new language, but I don't think that's the point. A great supplement to any learning/ reinforcement you already have going on in your language learning journey. my only slight criticism would be that it doesn't feel tailored to any particular language. A feature like flashcard classes within the app would be great! otherwise fantastic!

A fun way to share learning a language with strangers. It makes you think about what you want to say, and about what the other person is trying to say, without the pressure of real time interaction. Mainly text, but there is an audio option for subscribers. It's handy to have in-built Google translate to help out when stuck - look for the dots to open it. I don't know what some of the pictures are, but that can help creativity, like playing pictionary. Some images are quite similar - beware ;-)

Such a fun, interactive way to develop my language skills. Really expands your vocab, by challenging you to be creative and playful with language! Much needed in a swathe of language learning tools with fixed phrases for you to learn (yes yes, the boys eat the apples, we know!). Love that setting a weekly goal and achieving it adds 7 days to your streak. Plus I love the lack of AI, hand-selected images! Really enjoyed the art selection for Women's History Month too 🎨
