track. To expose our faults is Pratikraman. We clean our dirty clothes using soap and water. Similarly

to clean our soul which gets dirty by the 18 types of sins, Pratikraman is the best soap and water.

The original name of Pratikraman is Aavashyak Sutra. This sutra is divided in 6 parts.

1. Samayik Aavashyak – To be in the balance state.

2. Chaturvinshatistav Aavashyak – To praise 24 thirthankar.

3. Vandan Aavashyak – To praise our spiritual teacher and bow down to them.

4. Pratikraman Aavashyak – To criticize the 99 trespass of the laymen, to reminisce great men

and to worship Panch Parmeshti.

5. Kayaotsarg Aavashyak – To abandon the affection towards body.

6. Pratyakhyan Aavashyak – To abandon food, water etc. for some time.

As the name says Aavashyak sutra, it is necessary to be performed by every laymen and laywomen.
