About this app

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.

• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.

• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 50 people.

• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.

• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.

• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.

• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

A nice alternative to other messaging apps. However, I frequently experience issues with missed notifications, calls don't always ring, call quality can be poor/average, and on occasion, messages don't appear for a period of time (up to 30 minutes). The message then suddenly appears dated/timed 30 minutes prior.

I've used Signal for years now, and it's been a reliable messaging workhorse for most of that time - simple to use and secure. I've even donated from time-to-time. Recently there have been several issues, eg not being able to send messages, receiving notification of incoming, but then the message itself not arriving for 24 hours. Appears to have settled in the last few weeks, and now more reliable. Pixel Android 16

UPDATE: Issues below fixed, great app! The new update which disables picture cropping in favour of a skew option is awful, this has to be fixed. Edit: I'd also like to add that searching for multiple keywords in a GIF search session breaks the session, and no results are returned. It's very slow to load. Also when selecting a photo to send from my gallery, I only see it in full screen when I select it. If I decide its not the one I want I hit "x" and I'm taken right out.

What’s new

We sped up the performance of scrolling in long chats. If you are in a big gardening group, now bloom scrolling is also vroom scrolling.
