Standard Notes is a secure and private notes app. It syncs your notes securely across all your devices, including your Android devices, Windows, iOS, Linux, and Web.

Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.

Simple means it does one job and does it well. Standard Notes is a safe and lasting place for your life's work. Our focus is making it easy to write notes wherever you are and syncing them with encryption to all your devices.

Standard Notes is completely open-source, which means when we say your notes are encrypted with industry-leading XChaCha-20 encryption, and that only you can read your notes, you don't have to take our word for it. Our code is open to the world to audit.

We made Standard Notes simple because longevity is important to us. We want to make sure we're here, protecting your notes, for the next hundred years. You shouldn't have to find a new notes app every year.

Ratings and reviews

It seems to be running smoothly and it doesn't overheat my phone, which is always a plus, but its free version lacks basic functions like search-within-document, undo/redo, and search/replace. Also, I can't find a Standard Notes folder. I can't stand writing apps that don't let me copy, paste, or move around my documents as I see fit.

It's very basic, but that's exactly what I wanted. It's for notes and thoughts, not a 'productivity' app that takes more time to set up than you spend making notes. The big selling point for me is the end-to-end encryption. Whilst I am unable to verify this, it is open source and smarter people have checked and confirmed the claims. I look forward to using this app for journal, notes and copying information to that I need to remember. It looks good for my needs so far.

The app stopped working for me. It shows me a screen about my keychain having been wiped (it hasn't actually been wiped) and prompts me for my password. I enter my password and it nothing happens, it stays stuck on 'generating keys'. I can still use standard notes on other platforms. I didn't wipe my account or change my password or anything, so I don't understand why this app no longer works for me. Sucks, because I really liked the seamless, cross-platform functionality.
