Standard Notes is a secure and private notes app. It syncs your notes securely across all your devices, including your Android devices, Windows, iOS, Linux, and Web.

Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.

Simple means it does one job and does it well. Standard Notes is a safe and lasting place for your life's work. Our focus is making it easy to write notes wherever you are and syncing them with encryption to all your devices.

Standard Notes is completely open-source, which means when we say your notes are encrypted with industry-leading XChaCha-20 encryption, and that only you can read your notes, you don't have to take our word for it. Our code is open to the world to audit.

We made Standard Notes simple because longevity is important to us. We want to make sure we're here, protecting your notes, for the next hundred years. You shouldn't have to find a new notes app every year.

Ratings and reviews

Not a fan. First, it doesn't play well with 1Password. There is a button for Google Keep but it's not easy. I had to search online to find it is a manual process. And once the import was done there were many cryptic errors, most items were duplicated, and pictures were orphaned from corresponding notes. It ended up being a huge pain and mess. Starting from scratch may be a better experience but I'm taking a pass. If importing from Keep is an advertised feature it shouldn't be such a cluster.

So far so good. Syncs with other devices and has lock for the whole app not just individual notes. One major flaw is the search. When you search it tells you the note that has it but doesn't highlight where inside the note . So if it's a long note you still can't find it as there is no search inside individual notes.

I have tried many journaling and notes apps, but none made me feel as safe as Standard Notes. It is exactly what I have been looking for: a private and secure space for journaling and storing sensitive notes, and I really appreciate how everything stays private and encrypted by default. It is simple, practical, and gives me real peace of mind.
