About this game

Play the digital adaptation of the beloved tabletop board game. Root is a game of adventure and war where 2 to 4 players battle for control of a vast wilderness.

The nefarious Marquise de Cat has seized the great woodland, intent on harvesting its riches. Under her rule, the many creatures of the forest have banded together. This Alliance will seek to strengthen its resources and subvert the rule of Cats. In this effort, the Alliance may enlist the help of the wandering Vagabonds who are able to move through the more dangerous woodland paths. Though some may sympathize with the Alliance’s hopes and dreams, these wanderers are old enough to remember the great birds of prey who once controlled the woods.

Meanwhile, at the edge of the region, the proud, squabbling Eyrie have found a new commander who they hope will lead their faction to resume their ancient birthright.

The stage is set for a contest that will decide the fate of the great woodland. It is up to the players to decide which group will ultimately take root.

EDIT: Still kind of unplayable online, due to bugs with the Command Warrens, crafting, and notifications. Might revisit this if they ever get fixed, but since the game is still not playable months after launch, I can't give this a positive review. Good implementation, still a few discrepancies between the rules and the app, which make it less than great: the Marquise de Cat cannot choose which wood to use, and cannot usually use the field hospital immediately in other players' turns. The game also tells other players when you have an ambush card, which is not great. There should be two or three options in game setup - digital rules, tabletop rules, or even a compromise between the two where players set conditions for ambush and field hospital during their turn. Also seems to lack a way to view achievements, and could really benefit from an undo button and an option to have the Marquise de Cat always go first.

Thanks for your feedback! There are some minor discrepancies between digital and physical rules, but we're listening to the community and looking for ways to improve gameplay -- feedback from experienced players is definitely appreciated. We do have an Undo function on the way in an upcoming update, so stay tuned, and thanks for supporting Root!

God bless I love this game. It took me awhile to learn. Frankly, I had to watch a tutorial on YouTube even the tutorial didn't seem efficient. Asymmetrical board games are weird. But it's well worth learning. It's so much fun, and it's so much more convenient when the computer takes care of all the tokens and card drawing and all that jazz so you don't have to. I will say tho, I may just buy the actual board game now because I actually love this game and it's expansions. Well worth the buy.

One of the best digital adaptations of a board game. The tutorials are great for teaching Root, and I have spent way too many hours on multiplayer when I should have been doing other stuff. Sadly, the app is a bit buggy. Notably, the game sometimes freezes during AI's turn after a player resigns. And the devs are slow to add content from new Root expansions. But overall, I have had a great experience with Root Digital (and Root in general). It's so fun!
