The Bhagavad-Gita is one of the most ancient religious scriptures of the world. The discourse was delivered originally in Sanskrit. The antiquity of the Bhagavad-Gita is hidden in tradition, ancient scriptures, myths and legends. Its history, content and personality are intimately connected to the life of Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who played a crucial role in the war of the epic Mahabharata.

Swami Vivekananda evinced much interest in Bhagavad Gita. It is said, Bhagavad Gita was one of his most favourite books. In 1888-1893 when Vivekananda was travelling all over India as a wandering monk, he kept with him - Gita.
