Japanese Sakura is the flower of any of several trees in the genus Prunus. Japanese Sakura is of great importance in Japanese culture and is considered the national symbol of Japan.

The world-famous Japanese Sakura Tree blooms in spring every year, repeating a legend. The blossoming event of the Cherry Tree, called "Sakura Zensen" in Japanese, is held with the participation of large audiences from 7 to 77, accompanied by festivals and carnivals.

Japanese Sakura trees, which have existed in Turkey for many years, also bloom in March-April. It is possible to participate in this legend, which has attracted much attention in recent years, at three different points in Istanbul.

Indeed, nothing better represents the fragility and beauty of life and the impact of these two concepts on Japanese psychology than Japanese Sakura.

This flower blooms in the last week of March and the first week of April, and this period is considered one of the holy days in Japan. So much so that after the weather, a "Sakura Condition" is given. This period when the flowers bloom comes at the beginning of when Japan receives the most tourists.

Japanese Sakuras fall under the category of the natural wealth of Japan. For this reason, the removal of the tree or its seed outside the country is prohibited. It has been recorded that it was sent to 9 countries only for specific reasons. It has been seen that it is intended to develop universal friendship and improve relations with other countries.

The Sakura Foundation in Japan strives to make Sakura trees a symbol of peace all over the world. The Foundation establishes contacts with various countries; It creates places where these trees can be planted and seen by the public. In 2005, Sakura saplings were donated to the Nezahat Gökyiğit Garden of the TEMA Foundation in Istanbul Kozyatağı, in memory of our 600 sailors who were martyred in the Ertuğrul Frigate, which sank while returning from a friendship visit to Japan 120 years ago.
