Japanese Sakura is the flower of any of several trees in the genus Prunus. Japanese Sakura is of great importance in Japanese culture and is considered the national symbol of Japan.

In 2005, Sakura saplings were donated to the Nezahat Gökyiğit Garden of the TEMA Foundation in Istanbul Kozyatağı, in memory of our 600 sailors who were martyred in the Ertuğrul Frigate, which sank while returning from a friendship visit to Japan 120 years ago.
