John of Kronstadt (Ivan Ilyich Sergeev, 1829–1908) is a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church, preacher, one of the most significant saints of the Russian northern capital. As a spiritual writer, he left behind many sermons and diary entries, which were compiled into his numerous religious works. The central place among them is occupied by “My life in Christ, or Minutes of spiritual sobriety and contemplation, reverent feelings, spiritual correction and peace in God.” About his book “My Life in Christ” I. Kronstadtsky said this: “I am not sending a preface to my publication: let it speak for itself. Everything contained in it is nothing other than the grace-filled illumination of the soul, which I received from the all-enlightening Spirit of God in moments of deep attention and self-examination, especially during prayer.”
This book can be an excellent guide to spiritual life for anyone who seeks to bring their personal life closer to the ideal to which the All-Russian shepherd calls readers with the apostolic covenant: “Imitate me, as I am Christ.”
