About this app

Mappoff was created for and maintained by hikers and bikepackers. Because it is often necessary to do MAPPing OFFline when in remote areas, Mappoff allows you to save map layers and tiles for later offline use. Additionally you can create your own waypoints or enable tracking to save routes. There are several preset layers including the PCT Water Report, the Appalachian Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, among others.

For Wear OS users, there is a slimmed down version available as well. The Wear OS version can be run standalone to display the base map with location, zooming and panning features. To access the full functionality of the application on Wear OS, also install the phone version. Install Mappoff on both your watch and phone, ensuring your watch is connected to your phone. Load waypoints, routes and tracks on your phone and tap your watch to display them at that location. The Wear OS app uses a single pannable view and does not use Wear OS tiles to display actions. Instead of using a left-to-right gesture, press the X in the top left to close the app.

The Wear OS screenshots displayed are described as follows:
1. Standalone map not connected to phone
2. Connected to phone with Sample Layer displayed at current location
3. Connected to phone with Sample Layer panned to right
4. Connected to phone with Sample Layer pressing the menu button
5. Connected to phone with Sample Layer in dark mode by pressing dark mode button
6. Connected to phone with new Layer by long pressing screen to add placemark
7. Connected to phone displaying placemark description by pressing placemark
8. Connected to phone with tracking enabled by pressing the tracking button

Mappoff uses location data to display the current location when the location button is pressed and to collect locations in the background when the tracking button is pressed. You can choose to disallow location when prompted to do so.
