About this app

Many of us have grown up in India, where we were exposed to Indian classical music in one form or another. This app is a feeble attempt to introduce Carnatic music in a gentle way; in a style presumably we all can understand. We want to be able to rekindle your interest and help you discover some of the 'method' and grammar of Carnatic music. This app is obviously not meant for experts. We have intentionally kept this app simple. The idea is to introduce the richness of Carnatic music to get you familiar with one of the oldest systems of music in the world. So, let’s start by downloading this app!

240 Hz or 260 Hz? Which one is Middle C? I checked several piano apps on Oscilloscope software and frequency begins at 260, not 240 Hz? Can you clarify. The 3 tables have wrong values for frequencies and it makes it very difficult to make which keys to follow for beginners. Every value has to be corrected. Please correct them else it makes no sense to have them!!!

The lessons are easy to follow. The renditions with Gamakas and explanation of different bits is very useful. Sruthi box is an added benefit for practice. It would be great if the song with Gamakas is available in MP3 format to download for regular practice.

Excellent. My 11 year old daughter has no teacher nearby to teach Carnatic vocals. Nor do we have the money for the classes. I am no good at it. This app very very helpful. It will lay the foundation for singing. I recommend it to students who have no direct access to a teacher for some reason or another.
