Creatinine is a waste product that comes from normal muscle use and from meat protein in your diet. Healthy kidneys remove creatinine from the blood. It then passes out of your body through urine. Creatinine clearance is used to estimate the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and hence renal function. The app makes use of the Cockcroft-Gault formula assuming that plasma creatinine concentration is stable.
