The New Assayer carries out scientific journal functions layman as well as the Italian Society of Physics Bulletin. The latter, built in 1956 as an information newsletter for members, in 1985 it has been completely renovated to reflect the broader needs and has changed its name to "The New Assayer".

The magazine of The New assayer publishes the latest information on the results obtained in universities and Italian and foreign laboratories and reports news from the industry, stimulating the debate on scientific issues and cultural relevance. It includes an address book that has as its focus the world of Industry and businesses operating in hi-tech sectors, with presentation and instrumentation data sheets which find applications in physics research. The New assayer includes a section dedicated to the history of facts or figures who have played a different role in the SIF or in the physics community.
