About this app

Now in their 10th year as a mobile app, and their 12th online, the Wise Pilgrim Guides are the go-to source of up-to-date information on the Camino de Santiago.

The app is updated regularly with new content and new features and offers you the ability to leave tips for pilgrims following behind you.

This guide covers the Camino Portugués along the Central, the Coastal, and the Variante Espiritual routes. It has been redesigned and now works almost exclusively offline (to share your comments with others will require a data connection). As more an more albergues share their WiFi this becomes less of an issue, and the guide will tell you which ones offer WiFi.

Accommodation Directory:
A full directory of Albergues, camping, hotels, pensions, paradors, and cases rurales. Over 900 in total, with special attention to those that can be booked online.

Stageless Guide:
No more "stage anxiety" or guide created bottlenecks.

Maps:
Offline and online versions of a beautiful topographical may will give you a good view of the terrain ahead.

Photos:
Photos of albergues, monuments and other points of interest along the way. Currently 900+ images and growing.

Scrollable Elevation Map:
This one is hard to show with just a screenshot, but the elevation that appears at the top of every city page scrolls East to West. One complete elevation, from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago, uninterrupted by page folds.

Comments:
Albergue closed early for the season? Have a restaurant that you want to share, or perhaps one to warn others about? Every location in the app gives you the opportunity to leave a comment and to read the comments left by others. No registration necessary.

¡Buen Camino and thank you for your support!

Excellent information with clear maps. Unfortunately this app keeps crashing when minimised then enlarged. The left swipe instead of the double tap does not work. It is extremely frustrating particularly when you are at an unmarked junction and don't know which way to go, and it's raining! I'm sorry, I can't recommend this app any longer. It has even the bane of my life during this Camino.

Perfect for checking your location in real time while on the Camino. You can never get off track. Also the elevation map is useful in keeping track of how much hill is left to walk.

There are few applications related to the Camino Portugues, so I didn't have much choice than to use this one. However, it was a great disappointment. 1. Frequent crashes/freezes for no clear reason. In particular when using the map, but also at other stages 2. Poor performance when zooming in/out on the map. Regardless of using off-line or on-line maps. Maps.me didn't have this problem using the same data. 3. The written list is not very logical. What is mentioned seems rather random. Not clear if it reference a town or a place. They are obviously copied from a different medium but without any reference. The list is very long and there is no possibility to know (even roughly) where you are on the list. You will need to rely on the name of a town/place to understand where you are. It's also no possible to jump from the map to this list or vice versa, making both less useful as you need to match manually. 4. Interface: Non-standard interface makes the application "less intuitive" to use All and all, the app was useless. I was glad to have the route on Google Maps or I would have gotten lost frequently. Totally not worth the money I spend on this app!!

What's new

Another big May update, this time for the Central Route.
Also includes improved visibility for ‘dark mode’, and better visibility for when breakfast and dinner are included in the price.
