You can learn German for free at A1 level. A1 German (A1-Deutsch) is the mobile version of the mobile version of the A1 German Course (A1-Deutschkurs) at https://vhs-lernportal.de/deutsch. The app allows you to use all the functions of the A1 German Course offline on your smartphone.

You will find our free German courses at levels A1, A2, B1 and B2 at https://vhs-lernportal.de/deutsch You can use them with any standard web browser, regardless of the device. The German courses build up your linguistic abilities systematically. Regular tests help you keep track of your progress.

Ratings and reviews

It's alright but not very effective. Lesson 1 just jumps straight to full phrases without explaining any grammatical structure, It's useful if you just want to memorize phrases, but not useful if you want to learn how to build sentences (for example, I, And, Is, why, This, That, etc) I need to know these words and how to use them, then I can add vocabulary later to make my own sentences. This app just teaches you to repeat things, you won't reach fluency like this.

Perfect! Except I'm not able to download the content for offline. It loads forever. Maybe you can indicate how much space each lesson needs and also show the progress bar when downloading. Edit: Able to download. It just somehow finished, when I later came back to the App. By the way, I really like the exercise! It's like how we learn at school.

Best langiage app I've come across. Gives you meaningful and real contexts to learn functional structures and vocabulary, which you immediately put in practice by using the four skills. There are no translation or meaningless exercises, which is really useful while learning a language in depth, even at the first stages. It could do with a couple more communicative exercises, but all in all, I love it.
