About this app

Simple app that shows which string to tune, which direction to tune up or down (No more broken strings). The app is aimed toward beginners that don't have the ear yet or know what pitch to tune the banjo.

Tuning advice for best results:

Banjo string frequencies sound an octave below instruments like accordion and fiddle hence why people break banjo strings using tuners not designed for banjo. For example the note A on most instruments would be 440Hz but on the banjo it is an octave below 220Hz

When using the app keep tapping the string you want to tune with your thumb and also try plectrum to figure out what works best, resting the palm of your hand on the banjo skin also helps when tuning. Watch video above for an example.

As a tenor banjo beginner I found this app very helpful when my banjo tuner ran out of battery. I found I needed to keep plucking each string with my plectrum to see what level it was at and was able to tune my banjo in minutes. One suggestion I would have is to allow the user to select the string if possible, before trying to tune but otherwise I was very happy. Thanks for making this!

Thanks mate. I agree definitely needs a single string option and I will be updating the GUI soon with this option. The screen will have round icon with string name for instance G, then arrows telling you what way to tune. Any more suggestions send me an email. Cheers

Great app easy to use and tunes the banjo strings easily. I like that it tells you to tune the string up or down. I used it for a 4 string tenor banjo using a plectrum.

Excellent app it has tuning for all styles, I play tenor banjo in GDAE but I also like to dabble in the blue grass style and the app helps me tune to the perfect pitch
