Über diese App

The Glacier Photograph Collection (GPC) is an online, searchable collection of photographs of glaciers, mostly taken in the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Greenland. Photographs were taken from space, the air, and the ground. The dates of the photographs range from the mid 1800s to the present day. As of May 2013, more than 14,000 glacier photographs are online. These photographs have both historic and scientific interest, especially in the study of how glaciers are responding to climate change. The GPC app allows you to search the photo collection from your phone, select a photograph, view a medium resolution version of the photograph, and view photograph metadata. For a complete description of this collection, see the Glacier Photograph Collection documentation (http://nsidc.org/data/docs/noaa/g00472_glacier_photos/index.html).

The NSIDC Glacier Photograph Collection is an ongoing effort as part of the Roger G. Barry Archives and Resource Center at NSIDC (http://nsidc.org/rocs/). See also NSIDC's Adopt a Glacier program (http://nsidc.org/rocs/adopt-a-glacier/index.html) to help support our efforts to maintain this collection and to digitize thousands more glacier images and make them available online.

This app requires internet access and permission to store images on your phone. When an image is selected from the search output, the image is downloaded to your phones image gallery.

Note: This first release of the GPC app does not allow users to download the high resolution image. If you would like the high resolution image, see the online GPC search interface (http://nsidc.org/cgi-bin/glacier_photos/glacier_photo_search.pl).
