As Jesus grew toward manhood, he chose his mother to be his personal vessel and therefore acted through her actions to save souls. When he rode into Jerusalem on his donkey as a mocking king, he brought scorn upon himself as well as his mother's reputation among the people. When he drove the moneychangers and Temple priests out of the Temple area, he gave his mother's role in his life greater significance to him than to anyone else. It was his way of showing respect for who she was- his mother- and what he felt she could do for him in that role.
