Notre Dame Cathedral is a world-famous cathedral located in Paris, France. It is named after the Virgin Mary. Notre Dame de Paris is one of the first buildings in the world to use buttresses separate from the main building. In the original design of the building, these buttresses do not exist. However, after the construction started, as the thin walls used in gothic architecture got higher, cracks began on the walls due to the outward tensions. Flying buttresses providing support have been considered to prevent further deterioration. They have been criticized for many years, and it has been claimed that they look like "scaffolding that someone forgot to remove," giving the cathedral an "unfinished" air.
