Tips for better compass accuracy

Phone compasses are affected by nearby magnetic fields. Keep your device away from magnets, magnetic phone cases, metal objects, batteries, speakers, and electronic equipment while taking a reading.

If the accuracy indicator becomes low, move away from possible interference and follow the in-app calibration guidance. Holding the device level can also improve the stability of the displayed direction.

Device requirements

Compass readings require a magnetometer and accelerometer. Devices without the required sensors cannot provide a reliable heading. Location-based features require location permission and may be affected by GPS availability.

Ratings and reviews

Works very well. Easy to use. Shows your location on Google maps if needed. Modest fee to remove the ads. One of the few compass apps that displays the correct altitude. Worth the money. Little/no jitter. My phone is off about 2° and so is this, so it is as accurate as the phone which is good so it is usable in an emergency. I wish it defaulted to True north when started.

Works great...keeps me from getting lost. I do a lot of relic/artifact hunting in large, dense, and remote wooded areas where it's easy to get turned around and sometimes headed in the wrong direction. I can get back on course quickly by using a combination of Google Maps and this digital compass. Both great apps!

I have a few complaints. You can't trust it when you turn it on first. You have to do the figure eight with your phone in order to make sure that it's calibrated properly or you're going to get false readings. Does not work well inside for obvious reasons, outside not near metal objects is the best result. No crashing issues or anything like that.
