About this app

iDfish is a smart device application that provides you with reliable and consistent data when you’re out in the field doing what you love best: fishing!


Quickly identify species, determine the regulated size limit (if applicable), assess eating quality, and check if it should be released due to its protection status. All this information can be obtained in less than 60 seconds, giving the fish the best possible chance of survival when returned to the water.


iDfish has the largest database of line-caught species for mobile applications in the world. All the images in the database are high-quality and high-resolution. The developers of iDfish™ have gone to great lengths to represent fish images as they appear when freshly caught and removed from the water—no tank or underwater photos, no photos of dead fish, and no illustrations.


Fish can change color, shape, and size for various reasons. To ensure accurate identification, we also provide different color phases of various species. This feature, coupled with species comparison information, makes this previously difficult task quick and easy.


The application works offline and does not require an internet connection to function. Any trip information recorded will automatically back up to your account when an internet connection is re-established.



A yearly subscription is available to receive updates on fish details, limits, closures, and almanac data.

IDFISH APP YEARLY SUBSCRIPTION:
The iDfish application is being updated on a daily basis. These updates include species additions, new colour phases, updates to limits and data and tide and almanac updates. As such there are ongoing costs associated with keeping the application running therefore the application is offered purely on a subscription basis. 12-month subscription, automatically renewed until cancelled $9.90/year. Please see our in app purchases for current subscription costs.

The first month is free when you download the app from the Google Play Store after which you will be charged a per-year subscription as described below.

Payment for the subscription is charged to your Play Store account 30 days after the confirmation of your subscription purchase.

AUTOMATIC-RENEWAL of subscription: Your subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period. Your Google Play Store account will automatically be charged at the same price for renewal 24-hours prior to the end of the current period unless you change your subscription preferences in your account settings. You can manage your subscriptions through your Account settings after purchase. No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during active subscription period.

Ratings and reviews

Great app when it works. It started out brilliantly, but over time more issues have appeared. Two of the best features for me were the distribution map and photo identification tool, but neither has worked for several months. Images also sometimes appear as duplicates, with multiple species overlapping. I’ve kept the app due to its exceptional range of fish species, but the ongoing issues are frustrating.

This app is great. What I didn't like was that I had to download over 1GB of data to find out that it is a subscription service. Whilst the subscription is fair, I don't think the app should be labelled as "free" and then have a cost to use it once you have downloaded, installed and created an account. I think that is deceptive, and as such, I deleted the app.

Highly recommended! This is the best fish ID app! Is easy to use and perfect to identify the fish you catch. I've found every fish I've needed to on here. The creators are wonderful and so helpful also. I was having a little trouble with working some things out so I emailed them and they got back to me right away and were able to help me. No more issues and loving the app. Definitely worth having so if you're having doubts, don't, go for it! I'm glad I did :)
