Nonograms Katana: Sharpen your mind!

Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, "Paint by numbers" and other names, are picture logic puzzles in which cells in a grid must be colored or left blank according to numbers at the side of the grid to reveal a hidden picture. The numbers are a form of discrete tomography that measures how many unbroken lines of filled-in squares there are in any given row or column. For example, a clue of "4 8 3" would mean there are sets of four, eight, and three filled squares, in that order, with at least one blank square between successive groups.
To solve a puzzle, one needs to determine which cells will be boxes and which will be empty. Determining which cells are to be left empty (called spaces) is as important as determining which to fill (called boxes). Later in the solving process, the spaces help determine where a clue (continuing block of boxes and a number in the legend) may spread. Solvers usually use a dot or a cross to mark cells they are certain are spaces.
It is also important never to guess. Only cells that can be determined by logic should be filled. If guessing, a single error can spread over the entire field and completely ruin the solution.

Ratings and reviews

It is the best nonograms app out there. The nonos are of high levels, some are true works of art, so thanks a lot designers. And then there is the guild, where you build a city and a dungeon with RGP mechanics. One word: addictive. If you start, you will want to build all of them and discover all the new features. It is VERY time-consuming and sometimes complicated, but fear not: you are not alone. The community is one of the best bits.

Wish I'd discovered the "guild" mode earlier; you need a lot of timber and stone to build buildings, and you usually don't get much from solving puzzles (this part of the game is entirely optional though, to be fair… I just wish the drops were more balanced as I'm usually showered with "weapons" that I'll never use, while building materials come along once in a blue moon… even with the "+% drop chance" skill)

I can't rate this game highly enough. As a nonograms game it's great. Loads of puzzles available (users can sumbit their own) and a massive range of difficulties available. The guild takes things to a whole other level. It can be confusing at the start, but fans have made a wiki to explain all the various things. This is not a game to complete in a day or two, more like years, but all the better for it. Going advert free cost me about the same as a coffee - well worth doing.
