Definition of Ijma'

1. Language

In language the word Ijma' (ÇáÅÌãÇÚ ) is the mashdar form of the verb ( ÃóÌúãóÚó – íõÌúãöÚõ ) which has two meanings, namely:

a. 'Azam

The intention of someone to do something and decide it (ÇáÚÒã Úáì ÇáÔíÁ ).

For example, as mentioned by Allah in the letter Yunus: 71 when recounting the challenge of Prophet Noah to his people who disobeyed the following:

"... therefore make up your mind and (gather) your allies (to destroy me). Then don't keep your decision secret, then do it on me, and don't give me respite."

Also based on the following hadith:

"From Hafshah -radhiyallahu 'anha- that the Messenger of Allah -sallallahu 'alahi wa sallam- said:

"Who does not intend to fast before dawn, then his fast is invalid."
