With this app you can
Learn famous openings from the ECO (Encyclopedia of Chess Openings) database:
Have you ever heard of the Sicilian Defence? What about the London System? Queen's Gambit? There are over 1500 famous named chess openings. Can you learn them all?
Build your own personal opening repertoire:
There is no single best opening. Some openings are sharp and full of tactics, while others are solid and positional. Maybe you want to play along the most common lines, or maybe you want to find something no one has ever done before. With this app you can analyze positions with the computer, or navigate through a database of grandmaster games to see which moves are most popular or have the highest win rate. You can even let the computer expand your opening for you so you can spend more time practicing rather than researching. You can save as many openings as you want, with no limit on line depth.
Practice your openings:
Unlike other app which have you practice on a spaced repetition schedule and treat every line as equally important, Chess Champ allows you to play endlessly. Just go to practice mode and the computer will immediately start making moves for your opponent. You simply play the moves from your repertoire. The computer will automatically choose which move to play based on which lines you need the most practice with. Once you reach the end of a line, the board resets and you start a new one. If you get a move wrong, the app will alert you and show you the correct move.
Play Computer:
You can also play games against a computer. You set the computer strength yourself, or let it adapt to your level as you play more and more games. You can also track your progress to see how quickly you are improving.
Watch computer games:
In order to become familiar with some of the long-term strategies of your opening, you can watch the computer play games against an opponent while using your repertoire. Afterwards, you can go back and analyze the game for yourself with the built-in stockfish engine.
Coming soon:
(currently in beta testing) As you play against the computer, the app will record your blunders and inaccuracies and create chess puzzles from those positions. Then you can practice the puzzles over and over again to correct your mistakes.
(not yet built) Practice endgames. You will automatically be given an engame where your job is either to force a win or to play for a draw. Your performance will be tracked and you will always be shown engames that are within your skill level, with a preference for ones you don't know as well.
