About this app

Explore, find, learn, teach! Trees PNW is a friendly guide to native trees of the Pacific Northwest. It's the perfect app for your walks, hikes, vacations, backyard musings, and for teachers and students at every level.

Once you download Trees PNW, you can use it wherever you are with no need for an internet connection or cellular service, including in the woods or mountains. This distinguishes it from many other tree apps.

Trees PNW helps you learn using easy-to-spot "IDs" for each tree species, and includes a number of detailed photographs for each tree. For users who want to dive deeper, the FAQs provide scientific explanations.

This app covers the common native trees of Washington, most of Oregon, and most of British Columbia. The app does not cover species that are uncommon in the PNW or non-native landscaping trees.

The more familiar you are with native trees of the PNW, the more they will become your friends. Use the app to make your outdoor experiences more enriching.

This is a wonderful app. It's full of excellent, detailed photos and descriptions that make it easy to ID trees. Plus, there are detailed descriptions of the ecological roles of each species. And it's a free app with no ads! Edit 4/25/24: I loved this app, but it won't work on my new Pixel 8 Pro running Android 14. I hope the app gets updated soon!

UPDATE (2023-08-09): Now working wonderfully (image download progress bar is great touch). The app is crazy useful in pointing out distinctive features, and offering comparisons between potentially confusing options. Enthusiastically back to five stars. I started using this about 9 months ago when I moved to WA (from the Midwest). It was great! I tried it today and like others, I'm not getting the pictures--although I can scroll through pages, and read text. Using Google Pixel 6a, Android 13.

I want to love this app given how thoughtfully the IDs have been designed. However, the photos wouldn't load even after waiting for hours. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and now the app crashes each time it starts up. =( I'm on a Pixel 7 Pro with Android 13 and would happily edit to 5 stars if the photos would load.
