About this app

Nacre is a mobile app that seafarers will use in order to be personally authenticated and to prove authenticity of the maritime training certificates they possess.
More specifically, during the crewing process the seafarer arrives at the crewing office and needs to first be authenticated and then checked for the certificates they possess.
If the seafarers do not posses the appropriate certificates they cannot serve on a specific ship.
There exists a problem of forgeries of such training certificates and a developed blockchain-based solution, that the Nacre app is part of, tries to mitigate this.
The Nacre app has the following functionalities:
1. The seafarer logs in and navigates to the tab “My certificates”. Under this tab the list of the certificates that have been issued to the person logged in the app are displayed. These certificates are immutable and reside on a
Private blockchain. The crewing office can thus verify that the displayed certificates under the “My Certificates” tab are valid and authentic.
2. When the seafarer appears at the crewing office they also need to prove their identity. In order to achieve this the admin at the crewing office using a separate web application issues a QR code challenge.
The seafarer, then selects the tab “Proof of Identity” and clicks the “Scan Challenge” button. The mobile phone camera turns on and the seafarer scans the QR code displayed on the screen of the admin.
The seafarer will be notified about the status of the Challenge Response and informed if their identify was verified or not.
3. A support tab is also available in case the user encounters any problems.
