About this app

EXFO’s EX1, paired with your smart device is a one-of-kind GPON* tester designed to qualify Fibre to the Home (FTTH) installations according to the specifications of ZTV-43. The pocket-sized EX1 solution enables technicians to validate the correct PON-ID as well as total optical power loss.
This automated test and measurement procedure tests for permutation up to the OLT and Insertion loss measurement (OLT to Gf - AP), within the framework of NVt - Bvh (Vzk), which can only be performed after the OLT is connected.
- With the PON-FMT application and the EX1, acceptance measurement of the insertion loss is measured at the wavelength 1490 nm.
- The insertion loss is calculated from the difference in level between the transmit level of the OLT port (SFP module) and the receive level at the OneBox.
- In addition, the OLT port is identified by means of the PON ID (PON Identifier according to ITU-T G.984.3).
- The acceptance measurement takes place in the course of Gf - AP assembly. Immediately after the assembly of the Gf - AP is the same operation the PON-FMT is performed with a special level receiver.
The EX1 test solution does not need a screen; all manipulations are handled via the ultra-intuitive PON FMT application running on the field technician’s mobile smart device. All the required tasks are performed through this application: connection, setup and report generation.

The EX1 uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology which enables untethered testing capabilities – connecting directly to a smart phone or tablet. With its unique BLE capability, field technicians can be up to 100 ft. away from the EX1 tester, and not confined to challenging or harsh testing environments. EXFO’s EX1 takes full advantage of BLE by extending battery time, in turn allowing technicians to test more during their typical work day.

*All GPON testing requires an EXFO certified SFP GPON ONT stick, contact your EXFO representative for more details on this.
