HOW TO PLAY

Spades is a trick-taking card game for four
players in two partnerships. You partner with
North against West and East.

Bidding Phase:
• Each player bids the number of tricks they
expect to win (0-13)
• Bid 0 for "Nil" - a risky bet to win zero
tricks for 100 points
• Your team must win at least the combined bid
to score points

Playing Phase:
• Player to the left of dealer leads first
• Follow suit if possible, otherwise play any
card
• Spades are trump and beat all other suits
• Highest card of the led suit wins (unless a
spade is played)
• Winner of each trick leads the next

Scoring:
• Make your bid: Score 10 points per trick bid
• Overtricks (bags): Score 1 point each, but
collect 10 bags and lose 100 points
• Successful Nil bid: Earn 100 bonus points
• Failed Nil bid: Lose 100 points
• Fail to make bid: Lose 10 points per trick
