M'Sila State University was established in 1985 through the opening of the Institute of Higher Education in Mechanics, and then in 1989 the Institute of Civil Engineering and the Institute of Urban Technologies were opened. In 1992 it became a university center, and in 2001 it became a university, with four faculties and 23 departments.
