What is this software?
Transcriber is a software for manual and automatic transcribing of audio files. text editor and audio player are on the same window, and there are many capabilities (like: auto rewind, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, audio-text linking, ...) to help manual transcribing of (speech) audio file as easy as possible.

Who is this software for?
This software is appropriate for students, interviewers, qualitative researchers and people who want to transcribe (write out from speech, interviews …) recorded audios.

While transcribing a voicemail of 32 seconds, in mp3 format, the app constantly stops transcribing every 7-8 seconds, which requires you to hit the play/record button to resume transcription. Due to this, and the marginal success of the app's capability, the transcription contains many errors or incorrect words. Because of the app refusing to transcribe the entire message in one shot, many words transcribed are incorrect due to having to keep hitting the play/record button.

It works some of the time, but playing the audio file at maximum volume so that the microphone can hear it is a kludge that is not reliable enough to be worth $17.99, especially when one person is recorded at a different volume from another. My suggestion to the developer is to at least try to stream audio directly from the file to the speech recognition framework instead of relying on audio coupling and break-up the audio stream when long pauses are detected. The developer should also consider adding a second cursor to allow the user to edit the transcribed text without having to pause it at regular intervals. It would also be nice if the app supported importing and exporting *.trs (transcription XML) file used by the linux transcriber utility. It would also be nice for the application to be able to transcribe text while recording.

This app does exactly what it is meant to do. It has some features missing such as being able to jump forward in the audio clip which would be super helpful. I really hope you continue to work on this app as I haven't found any other app for manual transcriptions.
