About this app

Butterflies of Canary Islands is a pocket guide with descriptions and current distribution of all species of superfamily Papilionoidea, as well as information on the nutritious plants and habitats. Includes updated maps according to the GBIF and www.biodiversidadcanarias.es. The pictures and maps include a zoom option. To collaborate in the application you can send your images of butterflies from Canary Islands, with the author's name or pseudonym to melansis@hotmail.com.

The app is an extension to the whole of the Canary Islands of "Butterflies of Gran Canaria" (Naranjo, M., DB Suárez, S. Martín. Pictures: JJ Bacallado, B. Acosta, R. García, DB Suárez, AC Moreno , M. Naranjo, S. Martín, 2018).

Informative guide to the daytime butterflies of the Canary Islands. Include a brief description of each species, habitats, and food plants. As an initial source of information, the book "Diurnal Butterflies of Gran Canaria" (M.Naranjo, DB Súarez and S. Martín, with photographs by JJ Bacallado, B. Acosta, R. García, DB Suárez, AC Moreno, M Naranjo and S.Martín, 2018), which has been complemented with new references. The distribution maps are updated to 2021 according to the records of GBIF.org, the Canary Islands Biodiversity Data Bank (www.biodiversidadcanarias.es), publications and own observations.

The gallery of images and maps have a Zoom option. To collaborate in the application you can send your images of butterflies in the Canary Islands, with the author's name or pseudonym to melansis@hotmail.com.
