An interactive AR art project about past Jewish and present migration in Staudernheim

CARRY ON is an interactive Augmented Reality art project by Sharon Paz dealing with past experiences of migration - forced and chosen - which shaped Jewish life in Staudernheim in relation to present migration. The project captures the unique Synagogue space with its historical wall layers creating an interactive journey based on stories of both the Jewish families that lived in the village and contemporary migrants.

The different characters' voices lead you through their experiences and emotions raising the questions: Why did you leave? What did you take with you? Who did you leave behind? Where did you go first? How do you feel? Choosing the answer activates one of the stories exposing the difficult times, the process of leaving your home and the adjustment in the new place.

The audiovisual experience transforms the Synagogues historical layered space into an interactive simulation where the viewers can immerse themselves with the content.
The project blends old topics into contemporary discussions, creating a bridge between people and bringing different communities into a dialogue about tolerance, equality and freedom.

Carry On is part of the exhibition “In Bewegung - die jüdische Landgemeinde
Staudernheim im Auf und Ab von Migrationen” initiated by the Museumsverein Synagoge Staudernheim.

The association has been committed for years to the preservation and restoration of the former village synagogue of Staudernheim, district Bad Kreuznach. On the walls of the building a whole century has left its marks - reflecting use and abuse, the extinction of the local Jewish community. Here the Museumsverein Synagoge Staudernheim wants to establish a common space for all sorts of cultural encounters featuring aspects of Jewish history as well as contemporary questions of migration or participation; an open space inviting various groups of people, open for discussion and exchange.
