The wholesale prices app, developed by Unioncamere and BMTI S.c.p.A. as part of an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development, provides interested parties with a simple and easy-to-use tool. The network of national fruit and vegetable markets collects the indicative prices of the products sold within them. A total of approximately 3,000 prices are made available to the sector each week, including fruit, vegetables, exotics, and dried produce. Wholesale prices are collected at the end of trading through interviews by specialized personnel working in the management offices of each of the 20 markets and reported on a data collection platform made available by BMTI S.c.p.A. The data is published within a few hours of the end of trading. To allow comparison of data from different markets, a coding system and a unified product catalog have been developed. These are continuously updated based on the recommendations received from the various market technicians during a weekly meeting. For each product, the minimum, maximum, and prevailing prices are indicated; the prevailing price is the price for the largest quantity of a given product offered for sale. All prices are net of tare, exclusive of VAT, and are per kilogram unless otherwise indicated. Traders will be able to always have access to wholesale prices for fruit and vegetables, keeping them updated in real time to best support their business. Both producers, when selling their fruit and vegetables, and traders during their negotiations, will be able to quickly and easily view daily prices on their mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.). The app is completely free and available on Google Play and the App Store; it represents an innovative tool for market transparency.
