About this app

Unique and the only one in the world! Such a description is the best way to present the Antanas Žmuidzinavičius Creations and Collections Museum with famous Devils collection. This collection of worldwide fame was initiated by the prominent Lithuanian painter, public activist, professor Antanas Žmuidzinavičius (1876-1966). Antanas Žmuidzinavičius planned to collect thirteen baker’s dozens – 169 devils, however, he collected twenty dozens – 260. All of them were presented to him by his friends and the like-minded people. At the beginning the collection was displayed in the artist’s studio in the house of the artist. By will Antanas Žmuidzinavičius left his works of art, the collections and his house to the state. The collection of devils was put on public display in 1966. However, it became so popular that on 13 May 1983 it was transferred to a two-storey extension built next to the memorial museum to accommodate the gifts. At present the Museum of Devils, which is unique in the world, houses over 3,000 different pieces – works of fine and applied art, souvenirs, masks not only from Lithuania but from all over the world.
