About this app

Syphon is privacy focused end-to-end encrypted capable matrix client aiming to feel comfortable and easy to use.

That means:
- end-to-end encryption for all available chats
- no analytics, tracking, or telemetry
- no third party APIs (Firebase, Facebook SDK, etc)
- opt-in only for all signs of presence (typing bubbles, read receipts, etc)
- and much more

E2EE is working for direct chats and group chats, but until we have a third party security audit, we cannot recommend using Syphon where proven and independently verified security is required.

We know there's always more work to be done on user experience, performance, and feature parity with everything in the Matrix ecosystem. We're constantly improving!

We’re hoping that you can see the vision of the app! Want to help out or send us feedback? Feel free to email us at hello@syphon.org

Alpha software. Nice user experience and aesthetic, the features it does have are functional, so no complaints in that regard, but it only supports very basic features of the Matrix protocol. Doesn't support key-sharing between devices/sessions (cross-session verification), so encrypted messages from pre-existing sessions cannot be read. Doesn't support Spaces. Doesn't allow DMs and group chats to be shown in separate views.

Thank you for providing this very useful client for all devices! I have a now ancient Samsung Galaxy S3 which doesn't support Element, this was the only option available. Very minimal and efficient software and interface. Only issue I have with it is that I'm not able to verify the device after logging in: The desktop session tells me to accept the verification on the other device, yet no prompt ever show pops up in Syphon nor do I have this option in its device settings. Could you please fix this problem? Thanks.

Thank you for your feedback! Interactive verification is not yet supported, but you can manually verify the Syphon session in Element by going to Settings → Security & Privacy → Sessions, and manually comparing fingerprints. Cross-device signing is planned for v0.3.0 and will make this process easier. Thanks for kind words and trying out Syphon! :)

How is it, that not a single matrix client on adroid can manage the message density of Telegram, while also using a smaller less readable font? Dark mode is only properly dark in appearance settings, the rest of the app is way too light grey. Accent colors are too bright, contrast is horrendous. Why are image file names displayed? Why are they cropped into squares that have their width limited to far less than text messages? Look at Telegram, do whatever they do fit as much as they do on screen.
