Edit: came back after years. Review below remains the same. At higher difficulties it's down to random events and enemy placements, strategy and skill be damned. Very difficult and strongly random. Additional paid advisors do little to help the difficulty. Frustrated with the mechanics, especially fighting and RAPID sudden reputation drops that cannot be halted. Great game, but ridiculous and I'm disappointed in spending money on it.

PRAISE PRAVUS! Fun game, very challenging. The developers also made Plague Inc, but in this you can't speed up, use advisors, or use different governors for different maps without DLC. Still fun, but all that, custom scenarios, weekly challenges, and campaigns are all locked behind premium. Premium is one time $13, but you get a $5 discount for beating all levels on normal difficulty. Extra scenario downloads per day and creating custom scenarios costs extra money though. Worth your time!

It's fun, at first, but you soon realize is it the same thing over and over with no alterations. The odds are almost completely stacked against you, and it takes mostly rng luck to win at any of the military aspect of the game. The 'insurgents' can jump territory to territory instantaneously, aswell as outnumber you sixfold. Which could be challenging and cool, but with a max of 4 units, and with bland practically useless upgrades, it'pretty much just luck and zero stratagem.
