FloatCompass is a floating compass for Android that shows your live heading in degrees over other apps. Keep a map, web page or guide open while you check your direction, without switching between apps. Use it while walking, hiking or exploring a new city.
• Mini compass: Show just the live compass dial to cover less of the content you're viewing. Tap the compass to switch between mini and full views.
• Adjustable overlay: Move and resize the compass overlay, adjust its opacity, or minimize it to the screen edge and tap to restore
• Magnetic and true north: Read your heading in degrees and cardinal directions on a live compass dial. Use magnetic north without location access, or enable precise location for true north corrected for local magnetic variation.
• See location and elevation: View a street or area name when available, alongside estimated elevation above sea level in meters based on location and barometer readings
• Calibration and interference tips: View calibration status and warnings about possible magnetic interference, and follow figure-eight calibration guidance when prompted
Core features, including the compass, mini mode, true north, elevation display and calibration tips, are free to use. The app has no ads.
FloatCompass Pro (in-app purchase) unlocks:
• Heading lock: Keep your current heading as a target on the dial and see your deviation as you turn. Vibration feedback helps you recognize alignment while the compass is expanded.
• Saved places: Remember a parking spot, campsite or viewpoint by saving your current location. See when each place was saved and its estimated location accuracy. Rename or delete saved places and open them later in an installed map app.
• Premium themes: Personalize your compass with Pine or Gilded
Saved places are stored on your device. FloatCompass does not include maps, plan routes or provide navigation. Maps and navigation are handled by the map app you choose.
Permission to display over other apps is required. Precise location is required for true north, location names, elevation and saving places. Location names and elevation depend on available location services and sensor readings.
FloatCompass requires Android 12 or later and a device with compass and barometer sensors. Android Go and low-memory devices are not supported.
